I've read pros and cons on Dr. Faustman's research, but to me she's an angel of hope for diabetics. My immediate concern as a mother is that the natural? insulin is no longer available in America, so many diabetics have to import? their insulin from Canada and England. I will have no faith in the Health Care Business in America,? until they make the natural pork and beef? insulin available to all the diabetics who need it to survive and have quality of life.

If you have children, the chances of them getting diabetes are the same as any child being diagnosed, so they are at no greater risk at all. Hope this helps :)

@KienjeTheGiant He eats candy because his blood sugar is LOWER than normal and therefore he needs glucose. When you are diabetic you always run into the risk of taking too much insulin? which results in low blood sugar levels. And I personally take the shots near my abs and sometimes for a quicker effect, in my forearm. And no, the vast majority of the time you barely even feel it. You take insulin whenever you eat something with enough sugar.

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was 9 and have had it now for 20 years. I was always able to keep good control of my disease. About? 10 years ago, I lost control and was admitted to the hospital. There I found out about insulin pump therapy. I decided to go on the pump and become more educated about diabetes and its affect on my life. I think it's important for those with diabetes and their families to get educated - it will save lives.

I've had type 1 diabetes for 37 years. The synthetic insulin does cause problems and not rarely. It hits like a hammer and has no duration. I am importing pork? (natural) insulin from? Canada and it works better for me. I originally was on pork (natural) and? went to synthetic. I couldn't stand being on the synthetic insulin. Please if you can get a one touch basic. it uses photometric testing and is the most accurate. They are no longer available but you can get them on e-bay. I was taken by ambulance because I had passed out from low blood sugar 32 but the ultra meter said 300 .? I wear a medical alter bracelet to only test with serum blood no ultra meters! If you have blood disorders ALL ultra meters will read false high!This is as per makers of one touch . Write to congress to bring back photometric meter

Every time I leave a comment about pork (natural) insulin it is pulled. What are they scared of, the truth? Let people know there are other alternatives if the synthetic insulin isn't working for them. Obviously the person(s) pulling my comments do not have diabetes or take synthetic insulin. I think I have diabetes. Just recently too.? But I don't know what to do and I can't afford doctors. I am a little over weight. I don't exercise much in the past 4 years. I am recently extremely tired and can't wait to sleep all the time. My vision is seeming to get dizzyish maybe a little blurry. since being a fan of nick's and knowing he suffers from diabetes has made me more aware of the disease i started noticing the symptoms in my mum in 2010 around that time and i kept telling her to go to the doctors to see? what was causing the weight loss and extreme thirst,she finally got it checked around may 2011 and was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. so nick did not only change my life he saved my mum's. thank you x

@TomaGrubb FYI Mekelsior is a vegan activist who refuses to post any valid scientific evidence of his theories. The science is clear on diabetes treatment and diet - and although there are some vegans who do manage to control? their diabetes within ADA recommendations (which aren't very tight, in my opinion) but very few people trying vegan actually manage it, unless they weren't in bad shape to begin with. For me I had to eat LCHF and limit my carbs to only non-starchy low-gi carbs.

@Mekelsior This is still true, there is no cure for Type 2 or Type 1 diabetes. I've looked into McDougall's "reversal" as well as that of Dr. Neal Barnards - and they're both vegans trying to promote something that seldom works for Type 2 diabetics. We're best reducing our intake of starchy carbohydrates, period. I get all my carbs from non-starchy veggies. My numbers were so bad I cannot eat grains or starches and be healthy. I also have? normal BG's now.

What did your parents pack for you for lunch? I've got news for you, they packed you sugar. Read the ingredients of what you buy. 1 major ingredient may be sugar! I have type two diabetes and I have no symptoms. I feel great. Some are immune to the disease. I have never felt better. People who have type two dont feel anything. These people are considered lucky. Indjlin plays an important part in? the fight againt diabetes. The role is a factor. Please if you can get a one touch basic. it uses photometric testing and is the most accurate. They are no longer available but you can get them on e-bay. I was taken by ambulance because I had passed out from low? blood sugar 32 but the ultra meter said 300 . I wear a medical alter bracelet to only test with serum blood no ultra meters! @M3nac3r . with all due respect, its not wrong...? all its saying basically, is that we all take life for granted... and by not eating healthy, and not exercising, we don't learn from what has and is happening every day to people, especially children, and thats not right. Imagine being a kid with diabetes and looking at all these people eating like pigs every day. we probably look like pigs to them, taking what we have for granted.

I really like this video. Great job, IDF. As someone with Type 1, I don't feel like it's harping about prevention. I feel? like it's stressing the importance of healthy eating and active living in the prevention of diabetes complications, which is a concern across the diabetes spectrum.

Nice video but mostly wrong. This implicitly puts teh blame on individuals for bad choices. If we only made better ones, things could be right.. Pfft. What these ideas actualy say is all the obese people, pushing 50+% of us, are mentally weak. It doesn't fit the? facts and it doesn't fit the science. We have this epidemic mostly because of bad food policy and static, bad food systems. We've demonized fats and plugged bad fats and high sugars into everybody. We might as well have HFCS IV's.

I saw the show and thought to myself when matt said would I rather my diabetes be better or my life be better? I honestly think that if you really want your life to be better you need to take the time to get the diabetes better. oh then the whole regular soda? stuff made me go HUH? I mean who knows maybe they were low at the moment and needed a quick sugar.

I agree with basically everything you said Bill. Being around other diabetics would be one thing they could all use, showing that we do our own thing and control it. I think he was? drinking regular pop cause he had seizures before but I usually do one regular drink mid way through my drinking to keep my blood sugars stable but everyone does it different.

In Australia over the last few years they have implemented healthy eating in schools. Cafeterias don't have pillows, chips, only limited icy? poles etc and minimal greasy fried foods. The have main meals available eg stir fry, casseroles, salads, sandwiches etc. It's a great initiative and the teach the kids about most, sometimes and rarely foods at all stages of education. Hopefully we will see some change in the next generation ! :)

phewww!? Im so thankful that I live here in Iceland, because the system here pays 95% of my infusion sets. and 100%? of my insulin and blood glucose meter and strips. and they payed for my 10.000$ insulin pump. You might think that I had to pay especially for insurance, but no our system gives everyone insurance like your neighbor Canada ;)

Bill; you're amazing in every aspect, although you're not a medical adviser, you're still a charismatic leader in the diabetes world. I listen to you now, I tried a 6" sub the other day, no cheese, no butter, just? chicken and salad, ah that is nice, 8" is too much :) and I came home to a sweet glucose level *happy dance*

lol I stoped at like the middle of the vid to check my blood sugar ^^ ur videos really help me be a "good" diabetic :D ..oh and to answer that question that guy had to answer himself .. I would say defenetely to have abetter disease! cause with like good blood sugars my? life is better automaticilly!

After seeing the show last night, I can COMPLETELY relate, mostly to Matt. I am a 20 year old college student that has struggled with issues of being social especially in a drinking environment with type 1 diabetes. In response to his motif question, I feel that the two go hand in hand. In order for my life to be better, my disease MUST be better. If I drink too much and my blood sugar skyrockets, I feel awful both physically and emotionally for the choices I made. Maybe it's just me??

I will need to find this show on the web and check it out! I did not become diabetic? until after age 40 so I don't know how I would have acted at a young age. Diabetes is a real kick in the balls!! BTW Bill what do you think about the Paula Deen and Anthony Bourdain diabetes drama??? . . ?????
